WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
Nothing beats the beauty of a hardwood floor. Installing hardwood will add warmth and elegance to any living space. If you're thinking of installing hardwood flooring in your home, learn the differences between Solid Wood and Engineered Wood Floors.
Keep in mind, both are 100% Real Wood. Also, explore your options with our Engineered Vinyl.
ENGINEERED
Engineered wood flooring is constructed from multiple wood plies (another term for layer) with a solid wood top layer. Below the top layer is an inner core. At the bottom is a hardwood backing. Engineered wood create a structure that is less likely to buckle, gap, or react to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. You can install engineered flooring on any level, including below grade. It's a great choice for basements. They can be nailed down or glued down like traditional flooring. They can also be installed as floating floors, in which the boards are attached to each other and float about the subfloor.
SOLID
Solid hardwood boards are made from a single piece of lumber. The thickness of the board can vary, but most of Super Floor Center's solids are 3/4" thick. Solid hardwood expands and contracts in reaction to changes in moisture and temperature. Because of this factor, we only recommend solids to be used in rooms at ground level or above. Solid hardwood can be either glued, nailed or stapled to a wood subfloor.
